What is DACE?

The Diaconal Association of the Church of England (DACE) is a professional body for those engaged in nationally recognised Diaconal Ministries in the Church of England and in other Anglican Communion Provinces in Britain and Ireland, and also for others who support Diaconal Ministry.

Mission Statement

DACE BannerDACE exists to help the Church of England to develop its distinctive diaconal calling and ministry, to promote the diaconate as a full and active order,
and to support those, both lay and ordained, in such ministry.

The Diaconal Association was formed in 1988 by bringing together the Deaconess Committee and Anglican Accredited Lay Workers Federation.

In 1994 the Diaconal Association of the Church of England became a Registered Charity in England, number 1042999.

The Diaconal Association of the Church of England exists to:

  • promote diaconal ministries in the Church of England
  • support all nationally recognised diaconal ministers
  • maintain links with other associations of diaconal ministries in other denominations, and in particular "DIAKONIA Foundation: the World Federation of Diaconal Associations and Diaconal Communities" and its relevant regional groupings
  • consider the theological and practical implications of diaconal ministry within the total ministry of the Christian church
