About DACE…

A message from our President, David Rogers:

David RogersWelcome to the website of the Diaconal Association of the Church of England.

I was ordained deacon in the Church of England at Winchester Cathedral, UK in 1993 and like the our previous DACE President, been asked questions such as "What is a deacon?", "What do deacons do?", "Why do deacons in the Church of England have an Association?" and "Are there many of you?"

In England there are 80 + Distinctive Deacons, all working in all places of society, serving the People of God in various ways. We hope that this website will give answers to some of your questions through stories, pictures and history; it will also point you to further resources.

“Essential to the Church’s mission are two dynamics: sending and gathering. We have not been good at doing equal justice to these vital movements of the Church’s life and a re-visioned Diaconate can, in a time of great change, help to hold them together.”

‘For such a time of this - a renewed diaconate in the Church of England’ - page 30. The House of Bishops report to General Synod in 2001.

In His service,

Deacon David Rogers (President of DACE 2011)
Diocese of London
